New Plays from Rajiv Joseph and More on Tap for Vineyard Theatre Season; John Kander's The Landing Set for 2013-14

The Vineyard Theatre will celebrate its 30th anniversary season with new works by Douglas McGrath, Rajiv Joseph and Jenny Schwartz during it’s 2012-13 season. John Kander and Greg Pierce’s new musical The Landing is also set to kick off the off-Broadway theater company's 2013-14 season. No casting for the productions has been announced at this time.

Starting off the season will be the world premiere of McGrath's Checkers. Directed by Terry Kinney, the show begins its run October 3. Checkers is set in 1952 as a young Richard Nixon is campaigning as his party’s candidate for Vice President. However, an accusation of financial impropriety almost ends his promising career. In a momentous speech, Nixon takes charge of his fate and changes the character of American politics forever.

Next up is Joseph's The North Pool. Giovanna Sardelli directs the New York premiere, which is set to begin its run in February 2013. In The North Pool a high school Vice Principal and a Middle Eastern-born transfer student engage in a politically and emotionally charged game of cat and mouse, with dangerous consequences.

Schwartz’s Somewhere Fun will make its world premiere when previews begin May 1, 2013. Directed by Anne Kauffman, Somewhere Fun concerns two New Yorkers, Rosemary and Evelyn, friends from a 'hundred thousand years ago,’ whose orbits intersect again on a windy fall day. With their children grown and the world around them changing rapidly, each finds herself coming face to face with the terrors, joys and surprises of life and time.

As part of the celebration of the Vineyard’s 30th anniversary, a full production of Kander and Pierce’s new musical The Landing will kick start the 2013-14 season. Walter Bobbie will direct the musical which had a developmental lab production earlier this year. The lab production featured David Hyde Pierce, Julia Murney and Paul Anthony Stewart.
